Our History
The practice was first opened in 1942 by Dr. Brian Barry’s father, Dr. Kenneth Barry. Dr. Pearce joined Dr. Kenneth Barry in 1976 with Dr. Brian Barry joining his father and Dr. Pearce in 1982. Upon her graduation in 1988, Dr. Morland returned to North Bay and began practicing with Dr. B. Barry and Dr. Pearce after Dr. K. Barry’s retirement. The practice was renamed Drs Pearce, Barry, Morland Optometrists. In addition to caring for patients at their North Bay practice, Dr. Barry and Dr. Morland provided local eye care to the Mattawa community travelling there on a weekly basis for over 20 years. In 2022, Dr. Marco Roncone and Dr. Cynthia Warren joined the growing team. Now, as a 5 doctor practice, the office was given its new name Gateway Optometry.

Comprehensive eye exams
We conduct routine eye exams to evaluate a patient’s overall eye health, visual acuity, and eye function.
Prescription for eyeglasses and contact lenses
We can prescribe corrective lenses for patients who have refractive errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia.
Treatment of eye diseases and disorders
We can help diagnose and treat various eye diseases and disorders such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, and dry eye syndrome. We will also facilitate referrals to ophthalmologists as required and provide appropriate follow-up care when needed.
Pre and post-operative care
We provide pre and post-operative care for patients who have undergone eye surgery such as LASIK, SMILE, and cataract surgery.
Paediatric eye care
Our friendly optometrists will set your little ones at ease during their fun and interactive comprehensive eye examination. Do not worry if your child does not know their letters as we have special techniques for testing vision for those who cannot read or speak. We are happy to begin seeing children from 6 months of age onwards.
